Westmeath Examiner Sports Awards for 2018 presented (1st Feb)

Awards for Eileen Kenny and Jamie Battle

At a magnificent Gala Function in the Mullingar Park Hotel on Friday evening 1st February, the Westmeath Examiner Sports Awards for 2018 were presented. Eileen Kenny won the bronze medal in the 10k road race at the World Masters T&F Championships in Málaga, Spain, which earned her the September Award. Jamie Battle had a truly memorable breakthrough year when he finished 3rd in the All-Ireland Junior Cross Country in November 2018, which earned him automatic selection for the European Junior Cross County in the Netherlands in December where he finished 21st and led the Irish team to 5th place and earned the November Award. Eileen was there with her sisters but Jamie couldn’t be there as he had a race the following day, so his Coach Joe Ryan accepted the award on his behalf. Eileen and Joe were interviewed by the host Robbie Irwin of RTE watched by proud family and friends and a group of supporters from the Club. Congratulations to Eileen and Jamie on their Awards.
