Mullingar men team success in Kilkenny

Kilkenny City Harriers AC hosted a fantastic evening of racing last Thursday with the Streets of Kilkenny 5k, a road race through the medieval quarter of the city. This fast two-lap route started and finished at Kilkenny Castle and over 800 athletes got to enjoy the unique atmosphere of racing in night time on city streets.

Mullingar Harriers had a small but strong representation, led home by Andrew Nevin, finishing in 15 minutes 43 seconds, followed closely by Kevin Moore in 15:48.  Amongst the fast finishers were Johnny Morrissey (16:20), Kris Foster (16:29) and John Whitelaw (16:46), Enda O’Carolan (17:28) and Sinead Whitelaw (17:55) completing the Mullingar team. The Mullingar men team finished third Club [SW].

Noel McManus Memorial Run

The annual Noel McManus Memorial run took place last Friday morning around the Leitrim village of Mohill, with start and finish in the beautiful grounds of Lough Rynn Castle estate, there was a choice of 3 races, a 5k, 10k and half marathon. Noted for its picturesque scenery and rolling hills in the countryside around the village, the looped course with lots of tough hills has three distinct circuits depending on the distance athletes participate in. The 188 participants in the 10k event were led home by Mullingar Harrier’s Enda Seery, who finished in a time of 39 minutes 22 seconds, giving him a 90 second advantage over the second placed runner [MO’S].

Lynn Algar RIP

Finally, the Executive and members of Mullingar Harriers wish to extend sincere sympathy to Jenny Algar and the entire Algar family following the recent passing of her sister, Lynn, following an illness bravely borne. Jenny is a prominent member of our club and competes regularly at events across the country. Lynn had a huge involvement in sporting life, including her coaching and mentoring of some of our senior and master athletes over the last number of years in exercise development and strength and conditioning. May Lynn rest in peace.
