Track & Field Live Indoor Meeting (10th Jan)

Breakthrough indoor 1,500m for Aimee Wallace

Aimee Wallace produced a real breakthrough performance in her first race of the year at the Track & Field Live Indoor Meeting in the NIA Abbotstown on Wednesday evening 10th January. Aimee was a convincing winner of the 1,500m recording a time of 4 minutes 23.75 seconds, which places her second on the Irish u/20 Indoor All Time List behind multiple European age group medallist and Olympian, Sarah Healy. This was an improvement of 11 seconds on her previous indoor best and almost 3 seconds better than her outdoor best. These margins of improvement highlight the progress that she has made in recent months and firmly establishes Aimee as one of Irelands leading middle distance talents. In addition, it is also the fastest indoor 1,500m run by a Mullingar Harriers athlete in the Club’s history and she is now approaching Caroline Mullen’s outdoor Club best time of 4 minutes 20.47 set in 1988.

Conor Liston returned to the track for the first time in a number of years, racing in the 800m and showed great tactical awareness to win in a time of 2 minutes 01.38 seconds. Conor was a National champion as a younger juvenile and will be greatly encouraged with a win. He positioned himself on the leader’s shoulder throughout the race and made a decisive winning move with 200m to go. Undoubtedly he will have gained great confidence from his winning return and can now target the two minute barrier this season.

Jamie Wallace and Philip McCartan raced in the Men’s Mile and will benefit from the experience of racing against Senior athletes. Jamie finished seventh in a time of 4 minutes 40.16 seconds, closely followed by Philip in 4 minutes 46. 66 seconds.
