Streets of Portlaoise 5k 2022 (17th Mar)

It was a family affair in Portlaoise on St Patrick’s Day where John Whitelaw and Sinéad Whitelaw represented Mullingar Harriers in the Streets of Portlaoise 5k. This 5k was the first race of the 2022 Kia Race Series and it attracted a very competitive core group of athletes among the over 550 entrants from all over the country. These athletes, combined with a good race route, made for some fast running conditions with both the male and female course records broken on the day. John ran an impressive race and clocked his fastest 5k time ever, crossing the line in 16:01, taking 11 seconds off his previous best time. Sinéad was delighted to finish in 17:50, her fastest 5k in a few years. Both athletes left Portlaoise happy and they are now looking forward to more 5k races in the coming months.
