Run Galway Bay 2022 (1st Oct)

Run Galway Bay on Saturday morning 1st October was a race that included a 10k, a half marathon and a marathon. The marathon was run over six laps, two short and four long, on a fast flat course and the 10k was one lap, also fast and flat. The first race was the marathon and the nearly 370 runners set out early in far from ideal conditions of swirling winds, nasty showers and a stiff headwind on the return leg to Salthill on each lap. Kieran Nolan had to work hard and putting all his good work in training and drawing on strong mental reserves was delighted to finish the testing run in fourteenth place in an excellent 3 hours 4 minutes 59 seconds. There’s little doubt but he would have got closer to if not under three hours in more favourable weather conditions. Starting two hours after the marathon, the 10k race attracted a huge entry of nearly 1,200 runners and finishing well up after a fine run despite the tough windy conditions was John McNamara who was very satisfied to cross the line in 49 minutes 25 seconds.
