Rás na hEireann 2024 (18th Feb)

The 53rd edition of the Rás na hEireann took place in Dunleer, Co. Louth on Sunday 18th February and a number of Mullingar Harriers made the journey to compete on a tough, hilly cross country course. We had a super start to the day in the u/9 girls 500m with Cara Hickey leading home the field to finish in a wonderful 1st place. Cara was backed up well by Ella McManus (11th), Sophie Whitelaw (14th), Cliodhna Fitzpatrick (17th) and the girls finished 2nd Club team. A great result for these young athletes in their first competitive event for Mullingar Harriers. Laura Buckley ran a strong race in the u/11 girls 1,000m, finishing well up in the large entry.

The Women 4,000m was for u/20, Senior and Master athletes, and Mullingar was represented in each category. Sinead Whitelaw (Senior) led the team home in 12th place. With u/20 athlete Ailbhe O’Farrell 17th and Master athlete Linda Cunningham 24th, the team finished just out of the medals in 4th place.

In the final race of the day, the Men 6,000m, Ross Killelea ran with the leaders from the start and finished very strongly in 5th place, overall, the 2nd u/20 man [SW].
