Raheny 5 Mile 2017 (29th Jan)

Continuing his excellent pre-Christmas form, Mark Christie got 2017 off to a winning start in the Raheny 5 Mile on Sunday 29th January, a race he last won in 2014. Despite the cool, wet and windy day the event organized by Raheny AC attracted a huge attendance of more than 3,300 finishers, all eager to run in one of the best regarded road races on the circuit. Pre-race commentary was all about the contest between Mark and Mick Clohisey (Raheny Shamrocks) and that’s exactly how it turned out as the race quickly turned into a two-way battle between the two but Mark had the edge in the closing stages and when he took the lead there was only going to be one result and he went on to win in 23:44, with three seconds to spare on Clohisey.

Among the huge field Mullingar had four more men in action, Eddie Newman finishing just outside the top one hundred in 28:44, followed by Ian McCormack (29:13), Kieran Nolan (29:39) and Enda Seery (34:08), and all were pleased with their performances.
