Fun Filled Mullingar Juvenile Spring T&F

The second edition of the Mullingar Harriers Juvenile Spring T&F Meeting took place on Sunday 14th April and gave our younger members aged 8 to 15 years an opportunity to compete in a sprint, middle distance, long jump, standing jump, shot put and javelin, covering the essential run-jump-throw skills needed by developing athletes. The younger 8, 9 and 10 year olds finished off with a novel obstacle relay, which was a very entertaining spectacle and a huge hit with them all. We also had an u/16 girls mile and u/16 boys mile, with trophies to be won, which should give our younger members something to aspire to competing for in the years ahead.

Nearly 120 youngsters aged 8 to 15 competed. From the 6pm groups alone, nearly two thirds of them took part, well up on last year, which is a positive improvement. With nearly 60 events on the programme, it was a big undertaking but we were delighted that a big team of coaches and parents assisted on the day to make it all happen. Medals won or not, the juvenile members had fun and will have learned a lot about T&F competitions, which we hope will encourage them to compete over the coming season. Sincere thanks to those that brought buns, cakes and other goodies and of course those that manned the tables to distribute tea, coffee, hot chocolate and goodies, and apart from satisfying the hunger of parents, the athletes were delighted to be able to take some snacks and refuel in between their events [GD].
