European Race Walking Cup 2019 (19th May)
Oisin Lane shines at European Race Walking Cup
At just 16 years of age, Oisin Lane was one of the youngest competitors in the Junior (u/20) Men 10k Walk at the European Race Walking Cup in Alytus, Lithuania on Sunday morning 19th May. Despite the early 10.30am start, the temperature was already a warm 24 degrees centigrade and rising, but a light wind and thankfully relatively low humidity made conditions tolerable. Oisin is eligible to compete as a junior for another two years, so it was really always about gaining valuable experience of competing at this level, his debut at junior level in his first major championship. That said, Oisin clearly wasn’t overawed by the occasion and sticking perfectly to his pre-race plan carefully worked out and agreed with his coach, Michael Lane, he turned in a great performance, covering the distance in very even splits and with a strong final kilometre finished 16th of the big field of thirty three in a new PB of 45:17, which is a excellent result in his debut at this level.
