Coralstown 5k 2019 (3rd May)

A lovely sunny but cool evening on Friday 3rd May made perfect conditions for the Coralstown 5k, where Mullingar was well represented among the more than 250 runners, joggers and walkers that took part. Starting and finishing at Coralstown National School, the course took was a mixture of quiet country roads and long stretches of the Royal Canal tow path. With plenty of marshals and stewards, the course was very safe for everyone. As Coralstown is so local, it’s no surprise that plenty from the Club took part.

Always in contention and though he ran quicker than last year, Andrew Nevin ultimately had to settle for 2nd place with 16:33 in a close finish. Coming in behind him in third was James Keegan, closely followed by Matthew Glennon in 5th, the 1st junior man to finish. There followed a steady stream of athletes in the familiar Mullingar maroon and white singlets, including Alan Crowley, Patrick Muldoon, Enda Seery, James Cribbin, Andrew Glennon (2nd junior man), Robin Jackson, Mervyn Kennedy, Rachel Glennon, Jane Creevy, Michael O’Sullivan, Joanna Tyrrell, Linda Cunningham, Criona Reid, Patricia Broderick, Michelle Kavanagh, Christy Creagh and Cora Macken. Once finished, everyone retired to the school hall for the customary fine spread of food, post race post mortems and the presentation of prizes.
