AAI Senior Indoors 2017 (18th Feb)

At the AAI Senior Indoor Championships at the new National Indoor Arena in Abbottstown, Rachel Glennon and Shane Fitzsimons were in action. Rachel was first into action on Saturday 18th February in the 3,000m race walk and had an excellent race to finish fifth in a personal best time of 14:34.28. This was an excellent result for Rachel who is still eligible for Junior competition and was several years younger than many of her competitors.

In the 800m, Shane Fitzsimons comfortably negotiated his way through his heat on Saturday. The final on Sunday proved to be a very tactical race and Shane was in contention throughout and finished strongly to take fourth place in a blanket finish in a time of 1:56.74. Shane was less than one second behind the winner and inches from a medal, marking an excellent comeback to competitive action. Based on the rapid progress he has made in recent weeks, Shane looks set to return to his very best over the summer months.
