AAI Masters Cross Country 2017 (12th Feb)

Cross country racing can be tough enough, but throw in a tough hilly course and cold windy sleety conditions, makes the task even more of an endurance. That’s what faced competitors in Waterford on Sunday morning 12th February at the AAI Masters Cross Country. In the master men 7,000m Kieran Nolan turned in a solid performance to finish well up overall and just outside top twenty in his category. In the master men 4,000m Sean McMullin used the event as a tough work-out ahead of his participation at the World Masters Indoors in March and he had an excellent run to finish 2nd in his category. The master women group was led home by Maura Dervin, followed in by Patricia Broderick, Emer O’Hanlon, Brigid McCabe, Nuala Moran, Terri Greene, Pauline Troy, Eileen Kenny (3rd in her category to win her first individual All-Ireland medal) and Michelle Kavanagh. In the team rankings, the Mullingar women followed a very creditable 5th Club to round off an excellent cross country season for them all.
