National Star Award for Awa Fane

On foot of gold in the All-Ireland indoor and outdoor 200m and silver in the All-Ireland outdoor 100m last year, Awa Fane was honoured by Athletics Ireland at a Gala Function in the Bridge House Hotel in Tullamore on Saturday evening 16th February when she was presented with the National Juvenile Star Award for Westmeath for 2018, a very worthy winner for Westmeath.

The Club was honoured too and received the Kennedy Cup for Best Juvenile Cross Country Club in Ireland in 2018, marking four years in a row that Mullingar has won this cup. This comes as a result of the nine sets of team medals won by Mullingar in the autumn cross country championships in 2018. Leinster also retained the Bishop McFeeley Cup for Best Juvenile Cross Country Region and with Mullingar athletes scoring on seven of the thirteen Leinster teams that won medals we can take some of the credit for helping Leinster to win this cup too. These cups are a great testament to the hard work put in by our outstanding juvenile athletes and their coaches. They are all to be congratulated and can be very proud of themselves and their achievements.
