AAI Juvenile Indoors 2019, day 3 (6th April)

Criostoir Ormsby, Kyle Faherty, Conor Liston, Matthew Molloy, Jamie Wallace – All-Ireland Indoor 4x200m u/13 Champions

Golden finish to the Juvenile indoor season

When Kyle Faherty took the baton in the lead of the u/13 boys 4x200m on the final day of the All-Ireland Juvenile Indoors in Athlone IT on Saturday morning 6th April, we knew it was in safe hands and he duly brought the team home in first place to win the All-Ireland title in 1:51.63, and being a new event this year, becomes the Championship Best Performance. Of course, the victory wasn’t down to just Kyle, it was down to a great team effort, and with fantastic running by Matthew Molloy, Conor Liston and Jamie Wallace, leading at every baton pass, the team richly deserved their gold medals. To think, Criostoir Ormsby was unable to run as he had hurt his knee during the week, so young Matthew Molloy took his place; imagine how much further ahead the team might have been if Criostoir has been fit to run! Of course, as a valued member of the team, Criostoir joined the others on the podium and was presented with his gold medal too.

Another victim of recent injury was Shauna Leydon but she was still anxious to compete in the u/18 girls triple jump where she put together a strong set of jumps to finish a creditable fifth place, only fifteen centimetres away from bronze, a very good result in an All-Ireland final.
