An Cosantóir 10k 2022 (12th Oct)

Last held in 2019 but having to go “virtual” for two years due to Covid, the An Cosantóir 10k was held in the Phoenix Park on Wednesday 12th October. An Cosantóir is the official magazine of the Defence Forces and as well as being the 41st edition of the event, it also marked 100 years of the Irish Defence Forces. To maximise participation and to allow members serving overseas to take part, there was also a virtual aspect and in total of 1,500 took part. In the Park, using  the nearby McKee Barracks as HQ for the race, was 337 runners drawn from all ranks of the Permanent and Reserve Defence Forces, staff from the Department of Defence, and retired and invited personnel. Finishing strongly and well up in eighth place was our own Ian McCormack in a very good 34 minutes 22 seconds. Also having an excellent run and finishing strong in twenty first place was Stephen Campbell in 37 minutes 35 seconds. Well done to Ian and Stephen for not only showing Mullingar Harriers in a very good light but also showing that it’s possible to mix a busy military career with competitive running.
