Weather plays havoc with fixtures (4th March)

We should be reporting on how Mullingar athletes fared on the final day of the Leinster Juvenile Indoors on Saturday 3rd March and at the AAI National Masters Indoors on Sunday 4th March, but of course the snow that hit on Tuesday evening 27th February just before training followed quickly by Storm Emma put paid to those fixtures and they had to be postponed.

The AAI Masters will now take place on Saturday 10th March in Athlone IT and the final day of the Leinster Juvenile Indoors will take place on Sunday 11th March, also in Athlone IT when over 65 of the Club’s underage members will compete in nearly 80 events, the biggest entry by any Club. The names of those entered for Sunday are displayed on the notice board in the Clubhouse. As it is Athlone, we expect that everyone will make their own travel arrangements but if anyone needs a lift, please let Club officials know. This is a Championship event, so you must wear your Club vest. Don’t forget to bring four pins for your race number and remember the maximum length of spikes allowed is 5mm but you can also wear runners. Everyone must collect their own race number and make sure they are checked-in for their event.

As a consequence of these date changes, day one of the AAI Juvenile Indoors for relays and some older age field events that was originally scheduled to take place on Saturday 10th March has moved a month to Saturday 7th April.

On Saturday 10th March too of course cross country eyes will be on Waterford IT where the All-Ireland Schools cross country finals take place and nearly 20 Mullingar athletes will be action competing for their schools and colleges hoping to win national honours.

Indoors or outdoors, we wish all Club members the very best of luck in their competitions.
