AAI Juvenile Star Awards for 2017 (17th Feb)

Oisin Lane was honoured Athletics Ireland when he was presented with the Roisin O’Callaghan Special Award for Walks at the Athletics Ireland Juvenile 2017 Star Awards in Tullamore on Saturday evening 17th February. The Award is in recognition of the outstanding year Oisin had on the track in 2017, winning at the Tailteann Games and the Schools International and winning the u/16 All-Ireland title with a new Championship Best Performance.

There was success too for Mullingar, as the Club was presented with the Kennedy Cup for the Best Juvenile Cross Country Club in Ireland in 2017, marking three years in a row that Mullingar has won this cup. This comes as a result of the 5 team gold and 1 team silver medals won by Mullingar in the autumn cross country championships in 2017. Leinster also won the Bishop McFeeley Cup for best juvenile cross country Region and with 14 Mullingar athletes scoring on Leinster teams we can take some of the credit for helping Leinster to win this cup too. These cups are a great testament to the hard work put in by our outstanding juvenile athletes and their coaches. They are all to be congratulated and can be very proud of themselves and their achievements.

For the record, the individual Westmeath Award went to Niamh Fogarty of North Westmeath AC who won the All-Ireland indoor and outdoor shot and won the All-Ireland discus with a new Championship Best Performance, and competed at the European Junior Championships in Italy. A very worthy winner from Westmeath!
